MONTHLY REFLECTION

Because so many people were kind enough to share their reflections and stories of Brendan when this website was up and running previously, we wanted to bring them back along to share with everyone once more.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

THIS MONTH'S REFLECTIONS ARE FROM LOREN GILDAR, DAVE ZIEGNER AND DIANNE RUSSELL

BY: Loren Gildar

I played one gig with Brendan and that was the first time I had met him. We played as a trio. It was myself on keys, Adam Mantovan on bass and Brendan on sax. I had never heard Brendan play before. He was great! It was a weird gig as it was a formal event on a medium sized yacht. Periodically, Brendan had to leave Adam and I to walk around the boat and serenade the guests. He taught me a musical idea and that is to play a major 3rd to a minor 3rd as a grace note. I had only done it the other way and as he told me "It’s a really Hip sound". Thanks Brendan!

I met Brendan through our mutual friend Keith Javors. Keith and Brendan visited my home town of Marquette MI. on a couple of occasions. During their visits we hung out, saw the sights and mostly just jammed. The first time I heard Brendan I knew that this young cat could play!! In April of 2004 I came down to Jacksonville to do a concert and clinic with Alex Brooks and Dane Bays. Brendan was there to pick me up at the airport and get me to where I had to go. Throughout that week we jammed and had a great time. I stayed out a little late the night before I was to depart but Brendan assured me he would be at my room at 6 AM to get me to the airport. Sure enough there he was at six with bells on. I'll never forget his thoughtfulness and responsibility particularly when it came to his music. I feel privileged to have played on a couple of tracks Keith has written for Brendan on his "Free" CD. We all miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Why is it the wonderful people in our life are taken so quickly? But we must be thankful for the time we had them and in this case the wonderful music left by Brendan.
